CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is planning a fresh push on her Republican colleagues to hold a confirmation hearing on President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.

Shaheen will speak to reporters outside the federal courthouse in Concord on Wednesday about the need to hold hearings on Merrick Garland’s nomination. Some Republican senators, including New Hampshire’s Kelly Ayotte, plan to meet with Garland, but GOP leadership isn’t planning hearings on his nomination.

Democrats are making the nomination fight a key issue in the November election. A Shaheen spokesman says she will not mention Ayotte directly in the press conference, and Ayotte’s opponent, Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan, won’t attend the event.

Shaheen will be joined by former New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick and UNH Law professor Erin Corcoran.
