SPANAWAY, Wash. (AP) - A Spanaway convenience store owner has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a man he suspected of shoplifting.

KCPQ reported 21-year-old Jakeel Mason was shot twice in the back.

Min Kim says he shot Mason in self-defense.

Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer told KING5-TV that the pepperoni and cigarettes that Mason was suspected of taking were not worth a life.

Troyer said emotions were high and Kim was on guard after his wife was shot during a February robbery.

He said unreleased surveillance video shows Kim punch Mason before the shooting.

Kim was expected to appear in court Tuesday.
