MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Prosecutors and defense attorneys in Mesa have filed a joint motion asking to the court to seal video footage of a fatal police shooting.

KNXV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Th03nV ) that they petitioned the court Friday to keep the body camera footage sealed. The State of Arizona says keeping the video from the public will help ensure the integrity of the trial.

Prosecutors have charged Mesa police officer Phillip Brailsford with murder in the January shooting death of Daniel Shaver. They say Brailsford was responding to a call about a man with a gun when he shot Shaver five times.

Brailsford’s lawyer has previously said his client was surprised by the charge and believed the shooting was appropriate for the situation.

Mesa police say Brailsford has been fired.
