Susan Sarandon said Monday that Bernard Sanders supporters are mulling a vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton because the Republican front-runner would “bring the revolution immediately.”

Miss Sarandon, who has served as a surrogate on the campaign trail for Mr. Sanders, told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that she doesn’t know if she could bring herself to cast a vote for Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Hayes speculated that Sanders supporters have come to despise Mrs. Clinton and have vowed to “walk away” if she wins the Democratic nomination.

“That’s a legitimate concern,” Miss Sarandon replied, The Daily Beast reported. “Because they’re very passionate and principled.”

“But isn’t that crazy?” the host asked. “If you believe in what he believes in?”

“Yeah, but she doesn’t,” Miss Sarandon said. “She accepted money from all of those people. She doesn’t even want to fight for a $15 minimum wage. So these are people that have not come out before. So why would we think they’re going to come out now for her, you know?

“I think Bernie would probably encourage people, because he doesn’t have any ego in this thing,” she said. “But I think a lot of people are, ‘Sorry, I just can’t bring myself to [vote for Mrs. Clinton].’”

“How about you personally?” Mr. Hayes asked.

“I don’t know. I’m going to see what happens,” the actress said. “Some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately. If he gets in, then things will really explode.”

Mr. Hayes then asked Miss Sarandon whether she thought it would be dangerous to allow Mr. Trump to become president.

“If you think that it’s pragmatic to shore up the status quo right now, then you’re not in touch with the status quo. The status quo is not working,” Miss Sarandon said. “It’s dangerous to think that we can continue the way we are with the militarized police force, with privatized prisons, with the death penalty, with the low minimum wage, with threats to women’s rights and think you can’t do something huge to turn that around.”
