PITTSBURGH (AP) - The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has announced plans to increase the minimum starting wage for entry-level jobs at most facilities to $15 per hour by 2021.

UPMC said most Pittsburgh facilities will see increases to $15 per hour from the current $11.73 per hour, including UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, Mercy, Magee-Womens and Children’s hospitals.

Employees at outlying facilities such as UPMC East will also see minimum salary increases, although they will not reach $15 per hour.

UPMC is the region’s biggest employer with nearly 62,000 employees.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald hailed the decision.
