ABILENE, Texas (AP) - Two Arkansas men have been killed in the crash of a single-engine plane during takeoff in West Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Thursday identified the victims as 63-year-old James Estol Hathcock and 33-year-old Aaron T. Taylor, both from Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused Tuesday’s crash as the two-seat Vans RV-6 experimental aircraft left the Elmdale Airpark in Abilene.

DPS Trooper Fred Biddle says aircraft took off, banked to the west and then crashed near the end of the runway.

Biddle had no information on where the plane was headed.
