HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A 4-year-old child has died in a house fire in Henderson County.

Maj. Frank Stout of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that Easton Elijah Gibson died in the fire, which started Wednesday morning and took more than two hours to contain. The boy’s grandparents, Walter “Skip” Gibson and Sheila Gibson, were able to escape the house safely.

Several fire departments from across the county and law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

Some neighbors reported hearing a loud boom around the time the fire started. Stout says the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but that investigators have ruled out any suspicious causes.
