ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The daughter of a police officer shot and injured during a traffic stop last year is a part of the class of Albuquerque Police Department cadets set to graduate Thursday.

Elisa Valdez is one of 36 cadets in the class and one of nine women.

Her father is Officer Lou Golson. Authorities say he was shot in January 2015 after he pulled over Christopher Cook.

Golson suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen and a broken wrist in the encounter. Police spokeswoman Celina Espinoza says Golson is on light duty with APD.

The graduation on Thursday is at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Another class of 27 cadets graduates in June as APD tries to increase its numbers and return to normal staffing levels.
