ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Canisius College men’s basketball coach Jim Baron has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will lock him through the 2019-20 season.

The deal was announced Thursday, shortly before Canisius faced Niagara in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament at Albany.

The extension is a reward for Baron, who in four seasons has provided stability after taking over for Tom Parrotta, who was fired after going 64-121 in six seasons. The Golden Griffins are 72-60 under Baron. They had winning records in his first three seasons and are currently 13-18.

Baron has a 461-429 career record over 29 seasons, including stints at Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure.

Canisius also announced that Baron’s assistant, Pat Clarke, has been promoted to associate head coach.
