ATLANTA (AP) - State labor officials say Georgia’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in nearly eight years.

The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday announced the state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate for January of 5.4 percent.

The rate was down from 6.3 percent from January 2015.

Officials said the last time Georgia’s unemployment rate was 5.4 percent was in February 2008.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a statement that Georgia employers are continuing to add jobs at a strong pace. He said Georgia saw job growth in nine of the eleven major job sectors tracked by the labor department.
