BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. John Bel Edwards has ordered the flags flying over the State Capitol and all public buildings to be flown at half-staff in recognition of the life of state Rep. Ronnie Edwards, who died last month of cancer.

Services for Edwards, who was 63, are scheduled Friday in Baton Rouge.

Edwards says the flags will remain lowered until sunset Friday.

Edwards described Ronnie Edwards as a “dedicated public servant who devoted herself to fighting for others.” In a news release Thursday, Edwards said the state had lost a “powerful voice of compassion and activism.”
