HUNTSVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Humane Society of the United States says nearly 200 puppies and dogs have been removed from a suspected puppy mill in western Arkansas.

The Humane Society says the dogs were seized Thursday from a home in Madison County. The organization says it received a tip about the home and contacted law enforcement.

Authorities have not released the name of the homeowner.

The Humane Society says the dogs faced “deplorable living conditions” without access to clean water or food. The dogs are being transported to a temporary emergency animal shelter, where they will receive any necessary immediate medical treatment.
