FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man is heading to prison after admitting he assaulted a nurse who had been explaining his medical options to him.

The Herald News reports (https://bit.ly/1TrvOvJ ) that the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Eric Duarte pleaded guilty last Friday in Fall River to assault with a dangerous weapon.

A district attorney spokesman said Fall River police responded to a December 2014 report that a man was out of control at Saint Anne’s Hospital.

Prosecutors say as a nurse moved toward Duarte, the man ripped out his intravenous line and threw it at the nurse. Prosecutors say Duarte continued his outburst, throwing items around the room as blood squirted onto the floor.

The 34-year-old Fall River man has been sentenced to serve two to three years in state prison.
