COLUMBIA, Miss. (AP) - The newly elected tax assessor for Marion County has resigned after just two months in office.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1T9l0lj ) Vance Berry handed in his resignation Monday to the Marion County Board of Supervisors, stating his resignation would be effective at close of business that day.

The board, in a news release, said Berry gave no reason for his resignation.

Dana Elzey has been appointed manager of the tax office until supervisors appoint an interim assessor. A special election will be held in November. The elected candidate will serve out the remainder of Berry’s term.
