MAYHEW, Miss. (AP) - A maker and online seller of mattresses and bedding products will open a factory in Lowndes County, with plans to hire 50 people over the next three years.

Sleepmade will invest $1.4 million, leasing 50,000 square feet of the At Home with Bassett facility.

The Mississippi Development Authority will give $75,000 for building improvements, while Lowndes County is expected to abate personal property taxes for 10 years, projected to be worth $85,735.

MDA spokeswoman Tammy Craft said Thursday the company expects to open later this month, and will pay employees $25,000 to $35,000 yearly.

Craft says Sleepmade will also get incentives for attracting businesses to high-poverty areas, including an exemption from state income and franchise taxes over 10 years, as well an exemption on sales taxes on initial equipment.
