MANSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say an Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian on the tracks in Mansfield.

It happened at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday. Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan says the incident led to the closure of one track.

Police say witnesses told them a man was trying to cross the tracks from the Crocker Street side when he was hit by the train. Authorities didn’t immediately identify him. No other injuries were reported.

Officials say the Mansfield commuter rail station will be closed Thursday morning. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says riders are advised to utilize the Route 128 station.

The incident remains under investigation.
