CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been charged with stealing a quarter of a million dollars from an elderly western New York man.

Police in Canandaigua in Ontario County arrested 31-year-old Randy Pickett and 34-year-old Rachel Ayers on grand larceny charges.

Official say Pickett stole about $178,000 from the man over a four-year period, while Ayers stole about $73,000 over two years.

Police tell WHEC-TV in Rochester that Pickett was a maintenance worker at the care facility where the victim lived. Detectives say he and Ayers befriended the man and took advantage of his diminished capacity to steal cash from his room and bank account.

Authorities didn’t release the victim’s age.

Pickett and Ayers are being held Thursday in the county jail on $25,000 cash bail. It couldn’t be determined if they have lawyers.
