CLARK, N.J. (AP) - Union County’s prosecutor says a police officer was justified in firing a single shot at a suspect who drove at the officer while trying to flee in 2014.

Officials say a Clark police officer repeatedly ordered 33-year-old Kasaine Pertet of New Windsor, New York, to stop his car. However, surveillance video showed he drove at the officer, who had no room to retreat.

The officer fired a single shot, which struck the front passenger side door. Pertet was apprehended unharmed in Elizabeth.

Pertet was suspected of trying to buy items a department store with a fraudulent credit card.

He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and credit card theft.
