EULESS, Texas (AP) - A public celebration of life will be held Saturday for a North Texas police officer who was fatally shot by a suspect.

Euless (YOO’-lihs) police on Thursday announced the service to honor Officer David Hofer (HAH’-fer).

Hofer was gunned down Tuesday while responding to reports of shots fired in a park. Other officers fatally shot Jorge Brian Gonzalez, who police say ambushed the officers.

Hofer will be remembered at 1 p.m. CST Saturday at Pennington Field Stadium in neighboring Bedford.

Donations are being accepted for Hofer’s family, including his fiancee, his parents and a sister and brother. Funds can be sent to the Euless Police Benevolent Organization. A Gofundme account has also been established.

Hofer formerly was a New York City police officer.

Euless is 15 miles northwest of Dallas.

This story has been corrected to show that Euless is northwest of Dallas, not northeast
