MARKHAM, Ill. (AP) - A retired Illinois State trooper has been conviction of first-degree murder in the death of a suburban Chicago man who rented property from him.

Dennis Joyner of Park Forest was convicted Thursday of the September 2012 slaying of 40-year-old Robert Forston at a Chicago Heights gas station.

According to Cook County prosecutors, Forston and his family rented a Park Forest home from Joyner from approximately August of 2009 through August of 2011. Following a dispute with Joyner over the rental property, Forston and his family moved out.

Prosecutors say a year later, Forston entered the gas station and was confronted by Joyner, who threatened to kill him. When Forston left the station, Joyner followed him, pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Forston several times.

The killing was captured on video surveillance.
