WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a BMW being chased by suburban San Francisco police flew off an interstate, possibly traveling at 140 mph, and into a yoga studio in Walnut Creek.
KNTV reports (https://bit.ly/1VSKrW7 ) Thursday that Contra Costa County Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Ed Gonzalez says the car wedged itself upside down Wednesday night in the two-story building, which houses the studio and other businesses.
The studio was closed at the time.
The man and woman inside the car sustained major injuries. They were extricated from the car before being transported to a hospital.
Building owner Russ Mitchell says he feels lucky the accident - which sent the car flying some 500 feet off the freeway - didn’t happen during the day when the studio is full of people. Police did not say why they were chasing the car.
