ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Police in Virginia are not revealing the names of the Roanoke County officers involved in the shooting death of an 18-year-old high school student who authorities say was holding a BB gun.

The medical examiner’s office announced Wednesday that Kionte Spencer died from a gunshot wound to the chest Friday night. His death was classed as a homicide.

Police say Spencer, who was black, ignored their commands to drop a pistol. The races of the officers involved have not been released.

NAACP Chapter President Brenda Hale on Tuesday expressed concerns about the investigation and called for the officers’ names and the police dashcam video to be released.

Police said in a statement that the investigation would be fair and turned down the request for more detailed information about the shooting.
