RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The acting chief of a North Carolina Cabinet department is sticking around longer at the position.
Gov. Pat McCrory announced Wednesday that Kathryn Johnston is now his permanent secretary of the Department of Administration. Johnston filled in at the job starting in February after the governor appointed then-Secretary Bill Daughtridge to the North Carolina Industrial Commission.
The Administration Department oversees many of the internal business affairs within state government, including purchase and contracting, the state’s motor fleet and government buildings and property. The department also contains several state councils and commissions.
Johnston had been the department’s deputy secretary of service operations. She’s a North Carolina native who joined the department following a stint as a city manager in Florida.
