LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Fire Department says a firefighter was seriously injured when a fire engine collided with another vehicle in a crash that knocked downed electrical wires.

Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says the collision happened around 2:30 a.m. on Burbank Boulevard in the Valley Glen neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.

Stewart says the injured firefighter was rushed to a hospital in serious condition. No other injuries were reported.

City News Service says the downed power lines started a small fire in a liquor store that was quickly doused.

A Department of Water and Power crew was called to de-energize the live wires.

Several parked were damaged in the crash.

The cause is under investigation.
