GREENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Authorities have identified an elderly man killed in the crash of his helicopter in northeastern Pennsylvania over the weekend.

The Pike County coroner’s office said 82-year-old John Meyer of Warwick Township died of multiple blunt force injuries in the crash Sunday in a mountainous area in Greene Township. The Federal Aviation Administration said the Robinson R44 was destroyed.

The helicopter left Doylestown Airport heading for Mountain Bay Airport in Greentown when it crashed on the property of Skytop Lodge.

Meyer’s wife, Dianne, said her husband had more than four decades of experience as a pilot and had been flying a helicopter for about 10 years. She said he was heading to the family’s summer home on Lake Wallenpaupack.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
