WIMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Following a record year in 2015, container volume through North Carolina’s ports continues to increase.

The North Carolina State Ports Authority announced Wednesday that there was a more than 8.3 percent container volume increase in January over the previous year followed by a 7.7 percent increase in February.

During calendar 2015 the ports handed the equivalent of 300,000 20-foot shipping containers, the most on record.

The authority operates ports in Wilmington and Morehead City.
