SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say hopes are dwindling for finding alive a man who disappeared when he left his family in their stranded van to find help three days ago.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that the search for 34-year-old Daniel Brown has turned into a recovery operation.

Brown was wearing a T-shirt and jeans, and authorities say he may not have survived snowy and rainy conditions.

His wife called authorities Tuesday after her husband had been missing overnight in the rugged area near Kane Springs.

Crews followed her GPS signal to rescue the family from the van trapped by poor road conditions about 230 miles south of Salt Lake City.

The woman and four children ranging in age from 7 months to 11 years old were found cold but healthy.
