ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) - A sports utility vehicle fatally struck a 16-year-old boy who was riding a skateboard.

St. Augustine police officials say the boy was apparently trying to cross the road when he was hit Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Mark Samson tells The Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/1SBUhuZ ) the boy was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time after the crash.

Authorities are still investigating. The names of the teen or the SUV driver haven’t been released.
