OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The former girlfriend of a man accused of killing an 8-year-old Oakland girl says the man admitted to the slaying.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1Utoks1 ) that 25-year-old Darnell Williams is charged with murdering Alaysha Carradine in 2013 while she was sleeping over at a friend’s apartment.

Britney Rogers testified Wednesday that Williams came home agitated on the night Alaysha was killed. She says he told her he went to an apartment seeking revenge for a friend’s death and started shooting when the door opened.

Rogers says she later learned that a child had been killed and started crying. She testified that Williams then intimidated her to keep her from going to the police.

Defense attorneys say Rogers is an unreliable witness who can’t be trusted. She will be cross-examined Monday.
