HAVRE, Mont. (AP) - A Montana man has been sentenced to at least 50 years in a state mental hospital after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend.

The Havre Daily News reports ( ) that court documents show Jordan Carlson was sentenced to life in a mental hospital on Feb. 5 and cannot be considered for parole for 50 years.

Charging documents say Carlson told an officer he strangled Dawn Beeman when she wouldn’t speak to him after an argument. Police say he later told officers that he has a history of problems when not taking his medication.

Carlson pleaded guilty to arson charges in 2009 and shot himself in the head in 2006.

He was found to be guilty but suffering from a mental disease, disorder or disability.
