ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (AP) - St. Martinville authorities are investigating a homicide after a woman’s body was found inside a burned home.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office says firefighters were dispatched to a residence in St. Martinville just before 11 a.m. Thursday. When they entered the home, the woman’s body was found.

Her identity has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

Fire investigators, in a news release, said the body was released to the St. Martin Parish Coroner for autopsy. Investigators have determined that the victim died as a result of a homicide but details were not released.

The cause of the fire, which began at the back of the house, remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to contact the state fire marshal’s office toll free at 1-800-256-5452.
