TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A 2-year-old girl has died after drowning in a swimming pool at a Tucson home.

Tucson Fire Department Capt. Barrett Baker says the girl died at a hospital Saturday evening.

According to Baker, adults in the home noticed the child was missing and initially called police.

While on the phone with police, they discovered her in the pool.

Baker says a 911 operator provided CPR instructions until paramedics’ arrival.

The girl was transported to the hospital shortly after 5 p.m. but succumbed to her injuries.

Baker says there was a fence around the pool but an access gate was open.

Police are investigating.

Officials say this marks the second drowning death of a child in Pima County this year.
