ATHENS, Vt. (AP) - Police in Vermont say a speeding car drove off the roadway, crashed into an embankment and overturned, killing the driver.

Vermont State Police say the crash was reported at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday in Athens.

They say a preliminary investigation indicates that a Subaru Impreza driven by 31-year-old Jennifer P. Stamp was speeding when it crashed. They say the Athens woman was the only occupant of the vehicle and wasn’t wearing her seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was totaled.

The accident remains under investigation.
