LA SALLE, Colo. (AP) - Extraction Oil & Gas is appealing a plan to drill 22 wells in west Greeley as some Colorado communities call for temporary drilling bans and restrictions on well siting.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1QA9CNe) landowners with mineral rights are encouraged to attend the appeal Tuesday before Greeley councilmembers.

Greeley planning officials nixed the 22-well proposal amid public opposition.

Mineral rights owners were in Adams County in January protesting a proposed 10-month moratorium on drilling.

Lafayette Rep. Michael Foote is one of five Democrats to vote against a measure that required communities with bans on drilling to compensate mineral rights owners.

Foote says mineral rights impact neighboring surface property owners.

National Association of Royalty Owners Colorado chapter president Michelle Smith says protecting private property rights is the country’s economic foundation.
