BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) - The executive director of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority says a Wayfair operation is going to provide a big boost in employment at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.

Steve Levesque says the Boston-based e-commerce company specializing in home and office furniture plans to create up to 500 jobs after it opens in June at Brunswick Landing.

That’s on top of 850 jobs already created.

Levesque says that puts the jobs tally far on its way to a goal of 1,600 jobs by 2021, a decade after the Navy base closed. He also said nearly all housing units are occupied, and that the former 250-bed Navy Hotel is being transformed into senior housing.
