NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office says an inmate at the city’s jail was hospitalized after trying to harm himself.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office says 61-year-old Cleveland Tumblin tried to use his jail-issued clothing to harm himself in a shower facility Saturday morning.

The office did not say how the inmate tried to harm himself.

Tumblin had been booked on accusations including aggravated assault.

The news release says he had not shown any earlier signs of wanting to hurt himself. He had been assigned to general housing based on his booking interview and a standard medical and mental health evaluation.
