TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa County is planning to appeal a jury verdict that awarded $25,000 to a former female inmate who claimed she was sexually assaulted at the county jail.

County commissioners decided to appeal on Monday, after a jury last week found that ex-Sheriff Stanley Glanz was liable for actions that led to the violation of the woman’s civil rights, although no damages were awarded against Glanz.

Glanz resigned Nov. 1 after being indicted in September by a grand jury after a former reserve deputy fatally shot an unarmed man. An internal memo released after the man was shot questioned the field training of the volunteer.

A new sheriff will take office after a special election next month.

Glanz is still named in more than 20 lawsuits alleging violations of civil rights.
