DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police are investigating the death of a person whose remains were found under a highway bridge.

Officers on Sunday responded to a call about human remains discovered under the bridge in an unincorporated area of Dallas County.

The remains have been turned over to a medical examiner. Maj. Max Geron (GAHR’-uhn) says the case is being investigated as an unexplained death.

Geron says a group of people who are concerned about the care of animals had been searching the area and came upon the remains. Geron says bits of clothing were on the remains but nothing to immediately identify the person. He declined to release the person’s gender.

Geron says there was evidence that animals had disturbed the remains.
