NORTH ELBA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in northern New York say a 61-year-old hiker from Delaware has died of hypothermia near the summit of a mountain in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks.

Officials in Essex County say Hua Davis of Wilmington, Delaware, was reported missing Saturday morning after she failed to meet a group earlier that day. The Wilmington, Delaware, woman set out on her hike alone on Friday.

State forest rangers found her body around 4 p.m. Saturday near the top of the nearly 4,000-foot MacNaughton Mountain, located about 10 miles south of the village of Lake Placid. Her body was taken to Adirondack Medical Center.

An autopsy determined that she died of hypothermia due to exposure. The temperature overnight into Saturday morning was at or below zero.
