CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A registered sex offender accused of soliciting children through Facebook has been sentenced to five to six years in prison.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1OX9kdJ ) that 31-year-old Darren Cornell was sentenced Friday after entering an Alford plea to attempting to take indecent liberties with a minor. The Alford plea means Cornell doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there’s enough evidence to convict him.

Cornell was mentally evaluated after initially pleading not guilty by reason of mental illness. The results of the evaluation haven’t been made public.

Police say Cornell advertised a training program on Facebook and offered to teach a 7-year-old girl how to fight off a rapist. Police say Cornell said he would act as the rapist and the girl would be asked to touch him inappropriately.
