BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a New York City man was trying to elude Buffalo police officers when he crashed his vehicle, killing him and injuring two passengers.

Police say officers attempted to pull over a Jeep at Michigan Avenue and East North Street around 2 a.m. Saturday. Officials say the 21-year-old driver sped off at a high rate of speed and crashed into a utility pole moments later.

The driver died a short time later. His name hasn’t been released.

The two passengers were treated at Erie County Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating whether the vehicle was involved in several hit-and-run incidents just before the crash occurred.
