NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Officials say the death of an inmate, who was found dead in his cell at the Adams County Correctional Facility, has been ruled a homicide.

WLBT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/24MzbRp ) 55-year-old Luis Carrasco-Cortex was found Friday at about 12:43 p.m. It is still unclear what happened to him, but prison officials suspect “he might have had an altercation.”

Cortex’s autopsy findings show blunt force trauma, lack of oxygen in his lungs, dislocation fracture of his jaw bone, rib fractures and a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Coroner James E. Lee says he doesn’t understand how someone could get those types of injuries in jail and no one knows how it happened.

The Adams County Sheriff’s office and FBI are investigating.

Lee said the case will be ruled a homicide until investigators determine differently.
