MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (AP) - Officials are investigating after a Canada goose was shot with a bow and arrow.

WWBT-TV (https://bit.ly/1nqBuYd ) reports that the animal was shot near Midlothian, Virginia, near Strayer University. Officials with the Richmond Wildlife Center also discovered that the goose had been shot by an air-rifle gun.

The goose was rushed into surgery to remove the arrow, which wildlife officials believe wasn’t a hunting arrow.

Melissa Stanley with the Richmond Wildlife Center says the center hopes to release the animal back into the wild as long as there isn’t muscle or nerve damage that will affect its flight.

In a social media post Sunday, the center asked anyone with information to contact officials.
