FRANKLIN, N.C. (AP) - State and local authorities are looking into a fatal fire at a house in Franklin.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/1Yo8sGh) the Macon County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze in conjunction with the Franklin Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation.

Macon County 911 communications supervisor Todd Seagle said the SBI usually gets involved in fires with fatalities.

Franklin Fire & Rescue said when firefighters arrived on the scene Saturday, one person had made it out of the house, but another was still inside. The statement said a search of the home turned up a person in a bedroom. They said the person was removed from the house and declared dead at the scene.

Officials will release the name of the victim after an autopsy is performed.
