MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities are investigating an altercation between an apparel store customer and a suspected shoplifter that led to a shot being fired in a mall parking lot.

Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said officers responded to a shooting call at Wolfchase Galleria mall in Memphis on Monday afternoon.

Rudolph said a suspect shoplifted merchandise from a City Gear store in the mall and fled into the parking lot. Rudolph says a patron of the business chased the suspect and they struggled.

Rudolph says the patron fired a shot at the suspect, who was not struck. Police don’t know if the shot was fired intentionally.

The suspect fled again before he was arrested by police in the suburb of Bartlett. The patron also was taken into custody. No charges have been filed.
