RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Republican state Sen. Bryce Reeves is running for lieutenant governor in Virginia.

The small-business owner and former Army ranger said Monday that he hopes to bring “strong conservative leadership” to the job.

The second-term senator represents District 17, which includes the city of Fredericksburg.

Reeves lead negotiations with members Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s administration on gun policy this session, resulting in a deal that will allow more out-of-state concealed-handgun permit holders to legally carry guns in Virginia.

Reeves is the second state senator to jump in the race for lieutenant governor on the Republican ticket in recent days.

State Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel told The Richmond Times-Dispatch on Saturday that she also plans to run for the office in 2017.
