PROFESSIONAL - Private law practice and two years as a federal public defender in Washington. From 2010-2014, member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission. Clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and two other federal judges.

EDUCATION - Harvard University, Harvard Law School

FAMILY - Married, two daughters. Related by marriage to Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan; her husband, Dr. Patrick Jackson, a surgeon, is the brother of William Jackson, who married Ryan’s wife’s sister, Dana.

OF NOTE - Her elevation to the high court would make history: She’d be the court’s first black female justice, it would be the first time four women would sit together on the court and the first time two black justices would sit together on the court.
