EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A 75-year-old El Paso man has pleaded guilty in the 2014 fatal stabbing of his wife.

The penalty phase continues Tuesday for Isaac Duarte (duh-WAHR’-tay), who’s asked a judge in El Paso to decide the punishment.

Duarte on Monday pleaded guilty to murder in the slaying of his 66-year-old wife, Maria. Investigators say the woman was stabbed four times during an argument at the couple’s home.

El Paso police say Duarte turned the knife on himself, suffering minor injuries, after the fatal attack on his spouse.

Duarte faces up to 99 years in prison.
