ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - The inmate who escaped from a Rock Hill correctional facility is now suspected in an Atlanta-area crime spree that includes several burglaries and the shootings of two dogs at an animal hospital.

Media outlets report that 26-year-old Zachery Lee Reaves escaped from the Catawba Pre-release Center in January. Maj. Russell Popham of the East Point Police Department in Georgia says Reaves was arrested Thursday after an officer saw Reaves outside a business.

Popham says Reaves is also accused in a string of four burglaries around East Point in the days leading up to his arrest. Those charges are pending.

Furthermore, police suspect Reaves broke into the Tri-City Animal Hospital last week and shot two dogs. One died, but the other survived.

Before his escape, Reaves was serving time for a burglary conviction.
