SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a man was shot by a police officer during a six-hour standoff at a residence in Sioux City.

Sioux City Police Department Lt. Pat McCann said Monday that police responded to a call 2:20 p.m. Saturday. Police say a 43-year-old man fired a gun inside his home, where his ex-wife was present.

McCann said officers tried to talk the man out of the home before a SWAT team arrived. Police say the man was ordered to drop the gun, but he advanced on SWAT officers and was shot by a Sioux City police officer. The woman was not injured.

Authorities say the man was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The police officer who shot the suspect hasn’t been identified.

Police say charges are pending against the suspect.
